Location: Toplocentrala - Centre for Contemporary Arts
Place: Sofia, Bulgaria
The European Forum on Music (EFM) is back with its 12th edition ‘Equity in Music’ and will welcome you in Sofia, Bulgaria from 5 to 7 June 2024.

The term "equity” can be understood in many ways but the most common is that in relation to fairness and a situation in which everyone is treated equally.

However, equity goes beyond giving everyone "a seat at the table”, it is also about a commitment to making that table bigger and fairer to all people irrespective of sex, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, class, ethnicity, religion or other status as stated in Goal 10 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), "Reduce inequality within and among countries”.

The music sector in Europe boasts rich diversity, a powerful asset enabling widespread connection across societies both within Europe and globally. Yet, we must ask: is this diversity truly reflected in every aspect of music, from activities to market access and involvement? The EFM will provide the space to exchange on the current state of equity in music. From addressing geographical disparities to enhancing music education, navigating digital transformations, and shaping supportive political frameworks, the EFM offers a platform for crucial conversations and exchanges.

The EFM will explore some of the changes the music sector should consider making if it wants to create a truly equitable and diverse musical future. Because simply opening doors isn’t enough.

Come and join music professionals and art enthusiasts from all over Europe, as they delve into the topic of ‘Equity in Music’ and explore what kinds of projects have been carried out to advance equity in the music sector and what kind of future the sector is building.

The European Forum on Music (EFM) will foster personal exchanges and strengthen relationships between organisations, projects, and individuals. At the EFM you will be able to meet key actors, and to participate in a variety of sessions, including keynote speeches, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking sessions.
