JOINT ADVENTURES is dedicated to contemporary dance

JOINT ADVENTURES is dedicated to contemporary dance an example of support for an ambitious art form
Contemporary dance is an up-and-coming art form. The most innovative of the stage arts, contemporary dance has advanced to play a leading role in international cultural dialogue and is receiving progressively greater attention from public sources of funding for art and culture. This is evident, for example, through the Dance Plan for Germany of the Federal Cultural Foundation. Credits is due to the artists, choreographers and dancers, as well as to the producers and production networks which have supported this cultural area for many years and which continue to strategically advance the cause of dance among the general public, political institutions and administrative entities. JOINT ADVENTURES (JA) is one of the pioneers in this field.

In addition to pursuing its own artistic projects (e.g. the internationally renowned TANZWERKSTATT EUROPA in Munich), JOINT ADVENTURES also encourages structural support for contemporary dance. These efforts include: the supportive structures of the NATIONAL PERFORMANCE NETWORK; the German Dance Platform (TPD), which will take place for the seventh time in February 2006; and the German Producers Prize for Choreography (DPC). JA is an outstanding example of an organization that encourages the feasibility, quality, innovation and mobility of the contemporary dance community. Walter Heun, the director of JA, organizes and produces dance events, and also works as an artistic and cultural-political consultant for various public institutions. He is frequently invited to venues in Germany and abroad (e.g. BDE, IETM, Tallinn, Fiera de Teatro, CINARS, etc.), where he presents innovative supportive structures for dance.

As a co-initiator and network partner, JA has supported the NATIONAL PERFORMANCE NETWORK (NPN) ever since its founding in 1999. The NPN encourages exchange among trans-regional and international contemporary dance productions. Within the framework of support for guest performances, with assistance from the federal governments designated liaison for culture and media, and with further support from the ministries of art and culture of the German states, the NPN has provided support for guest performances of dance productions that were created in Germany. Co-production support has also been forthcoming via the NPN since 2005: this project by German Dance Plan was made possible by the Federal Cultural Foundation. Organizers, artists and dance companies can apply for funding here. Additional information, details about deadlines for applications, and other downloads are available at www.jointadventures.net/npn

JA is co-initiator and organizing partner of the German Dance Platform (TPD). At two-year intervals, the TPD presents current tendencies of contemporary dance in Germany. The TPDs performances for 2006 will take place at Theaterhaus in Stuttgart. One of Europes most important dance events, the TPD serves artists, organizers, makers of culture and audiences of interested specialists, offering them opportunities to share information about the latest happenings on the dance scene in Germany. The TPD also enables audiences to view a large number of exciting dance productions that have been created in Germany. Approximately 450 multipliers from around the world are the TPDs guests every two years. The next German Dance Platform will take place from Wednesday, February 22 through Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Theaterhaus in Stuttgart. Additional information is available at www.jointadventures.net/tpd

The German Producers Prize for Choreography (DPC) was jointly established in 1995 by JA and a group of dedicated organizers, producers, and artistic directors of festivals and theaters. One of the largest monetary prizes for contemporary dance, the DPC is a model for the support of dance on the very highest level. Eleven co-producers collaborate to make possible each production. Afterwards, each newly created piece is performed in ten cities. JA co-founded the DPC and has been one of its co-production partners since 1995. The fifth DPC was awarded to Rodolpho Leoni, who used the prize money to finance a production which will be shown as a guest performance at DANCE WORKSHOP EUROPE 2006.
