The historical library is not only considered the origin of the Weimar Klassik, it is also regarded as one of the most important historical libraries, containing over one million books. When the fire broke out in the roof timbering, there were approximately 120.000 books in the Rokokosaal, some of them being the only copies ever written. Great parts of the inventory were destroyed through the fire, or suffered serious damages from the water that extinguished the flames. More than 500 volunteers, fire-men, and employees of the foundation worked several days to remove valuable works of art and tens of thousands of books...
