Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy on "Arts Practices and Cultural Policies in Conditions of Disaster"

In this issue, the journal Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy, published by the German Arts Management Association, will deal with the topic "Arts Practices and Cultural Policies in Conditions of Disaster". The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2021.
This issue focuses on responses to, and long-term changes in the arts and cultural policy fields related to the current climate, health, and economic crises. Contributed articles examine organizational and economic models that allow for continued cultural production and community engagement during times of disaster. How can we learn from instantaneous reactions to crises and from cases of disaster mismanagement, and translate these insights into viable practices? What governmental and institutional policies are needed, in the long run, to secure a diverse artistic and cultural landscape? How do research methods, education, and programming need to change to accommodate conditions of crises? What do policies and practices for a resilient arts and cultural sector look like?

Contributions are welcome in the following areas:

  • Leadership and funding models
  • Economic impact of crises and disasters on the cultural sector
  • Hybrid programming (online and on-site)
  • Working modes and conditions
  • Sustainable production both in terms of climate responsibility and institutional awareness
  • Risk management and risk policies in the cultural field
  • Resilience of the cultural sector

Submission guidelines can be found here.

Articles are to be submitted to: submissions@jcmcp.org

Submission deadline: September 1, 2021

The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy represents an international perspective on current issues in research, teaching and practice in the fields of cultural management and cultural policy. The range of topics includes national and international cultural policy at all levels (cultural policy, polity and politics); the arts and cultural system/field as well as their institutions, practices and offerings; actors in culture and the arts as well as processes of production, distribution and reception of art and culture. Likewise, methodological (qualitative, quantitative, experimental) and theoretical-analytical works will find a podium, whereby a principled interdisciplinary openness is strived for.

Scientific articles (6,000 to 10,000 words), exploratory essays (approx. 6,000 words) and case studies (approx. 4,000 words) from relevant disciplines in the humanities, cultural studies, social sciences and economics as well as book and conference reviews (850 to 1,000 words) will be published.
