Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Development Intern, London

The OAE plays its main season at the South Bank Centre and is also resident at Glyndebourne Festival Opera each summer in addition to busy international touring schedule. Working in the OAEs Arts Administration training scheme, the Development Intern supports the work of the Orchestras small and dynamic fundraising team by helping to administer our successful Friends scheme, working o­n our events programme and helping to research possible future supporters of the OAE. It is a 3 month (minimum) position and during this time the Development Intern will receive training and gain experience in all areas of Development to help to begin a career in fundraising. There will also be opportunities to learn about the OAEs marketing work.

Friends Scheme

Work with the Development Manager to ensure efficient servicing of the Friends.

Key responsibilities:

- To prepare monthly renewal and thank you letters
- To update membership details o­n the new database
- To collate and prepare information for the Friends newsletter
- To administer events for the Friends including the annual party and regular open rehearsals
- To ensure that Friends are kept up to date with orchestra news through regular e-bulletins
- To prepare recruitment mailings

Sponsorship

- To assist in the fulfilment of sponsorship and corporate membership packages for sponsors of the Orchestra
- To research prospective donors and sponsors, working with the Director of Development
- To maintain and update prospect lists for prospective donors and sponsors

Events

- To help to co-ordinate events for the OAE including Friends, Patrons and Sponsors events and cultivation evenings including booking reception rooms, liasing with the host venue, working o­n the friends reception desk at London concerts

Administration

- To ensure manual and computer files o­n the OAE database are kept up to date and comprehensive
- To administer mailings to the OAE audience, working with the Marketing Manager
- To offer administrative support to Director of Development & Marketing as requested

General Training

Intern will be sent o­n training days and external meetings.
Interns will receive coaching o­n CV and interviewing techniques.

Terms: Office Hours 9.30 to 5.30pm, occasional evening concert work and opportunities to travel with the Orchestra. Permanent post with a six month probationary period.

Salary: Unpaid but will receive an allowance for travel and lunch expenses

About the Orchestra

The OAE is a dynamic orchestra renowned for its refreshing interpretation of music o­n period instruments with a core repertoire of music from the 18th and 19th centuries. Musicians perform with instruments specifically suited to each period and aims to introduce period instrument performances to a wide range of people through both concerts and education projects. The OAE is Associate Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and at Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Other regular appearances include the BBC Proms, the Lincoln Center in New York, The Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris and major festivals throughout the UK and abroad. The Orchestra regularly works with some of the worlds finest conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Mark Elder, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Roger Norrington and Frans Brüggen. The Orchestra has performed in over 20 countries and has made more than 50 recordings o­n major record labels. As a self-governing organisation, the players have a key role in determining the artistic programme, ensuring that it is adventurous and varied.
