Community based arts are a vital tool for building strong and vibrant communities

A growing body of evidence highlights the effectiveness of arts projects in engaging communities and increasing local skills and resources, while at the same time creating new and exciting art works.

A brand new unit offered through Deakin University provides the knowledge and skills needed for you or your staff member to design and successfully deliver effective community based arts projects.

Managing Arts in Community Settings looks at how successful art projects enable collaborative and participatory processes. Topics include: the design of community based arts projects; the role of artists and facilitators; venues and facilities; arts based social enterprises; and evaluating community art projects. The unit examines this work from the context of arts organisations, government and the community sector.

This unit is an off-campus unit providing flexibility so that you, or your staff member can study where you are. It can be taken as a single subject, or as part of a Graduate Certificate or Masters in Arts & Entertainment Management. Enrolments are now being taken for Trimester 2, which runs July to October, 2012.
