Call for Proposals: Classical:Next Rotterdam 2017

The leading classical music meeting and worldwide innovators' network Classical:NEXT has opened its annual call for proposals. All classical music professionals from around the globe can submit their suggestions for showcase artists, project pitches and conference sessions to be hosted at Classical:NEXT in Rotterdam, 17-20 May 2017. The organizers are calling for outstanding NEXT artists and classical music projects as well as future-oriented topics and interactive conference formats. Propose your Showcase, Conference Session or Project Pitch for the jury-selected programme of the next edition. Application deadline is 30 September 2016.
Classical:NEXT is a forum of the community, by the community: the programme content is created by classical music professionals. Over 2.000 international movers, shakers and everyday innovators from all sectors of the classical music business gather to share their knowledge and passion, while outstanding artists and projects showcase their talent live and in video presentations all are invited to submit proposals for their programme suggestions.

All proposals will be considered by an independent jury of international experts guaranteeing a neutral and balanced selection of only the best showcases and most pressing conference topics for Classical:NEXT 2016. Proposals can be made in four categories: Showcases, nighttime Club Showcases, Conference Sessions of various, preferably interactive formats and Project Pitches:

  • Showcases: The ideal format for soloists and small ensembles to present their new repertoire, new approaches and/or new concert formats. Come perform in front of the Classical:NEXT delegates representing all areas of the industry including music presenters, media and venues. For 2017, showcase artists are sought for evening performances in various settings in de Doelen and for the closing event.
  • Club Showcases: Come perform in a club style surrounding in order to break the Classical norms. After the sun goes down on Thursday, 18 May and Friday, 19 May, musical adventures start up in intimate, casual surroundings. International soloists, small ensembles and DJs are sought, experts of excellence in crafting club-compatible soundscapes of the classically-inclined.
  • Conference Sessions: Take your topics, projects and passions and design an interactive session to transfer hands-on know-how to or find new solutions with the Classical:NEXT delegates. Informative, educational and/or controversial present your topics, projects and passions to the Classical:NEXT delegates in the conference programme. The conference section of Classical:NEXT offers talks, panel discussions and interactive sessions as well as mentoring and network formats. The main aim of the conference is to help delegates with burning issues, examine todays challenges and find solutions together, to stay up-to-date with new developments and to shape the future of classical and contemporary music. In your proposal you should tell the jury how exactly you would like to design your session.
  • Project Pitches: Project Pitches are quick-fire, 9-minute presentations including video and Q&A. This format is ideal as a cost and time-effective way to inform the international music community about your artistic project, a large ensemble or staged production using your most attractive video material and your powers of persuasion.
Classical:NEXT offers a dedicated online proposal site, to submit the proposals. It is free and it is easy to handle. You can make your proposal only through our dedicated online system. Make your proposal before Friday, 30 September 2016!

The programme will slowly be announced at the beginning of next year, giving important promotion to the selected artists and speakers and offering a good overview of the important trends and topics of the international classical music world. After Classical:NEXT is held (17-20 May in Rotterdam, the Netherlands), the topics and performances resonate in the classical music scene in the months and years after, as five editions of Classical:NEXT have shown.

Classical:NEXT is an international professionals forum for all sectors of the classical music industry. The networking event includes an expo and a conference, as well as showcase concerts and video screenings. Classical:NEXT is produced by Berlin-based Piranha Arts and will again take place in de Doelen concert hall and congress centre, with de Doelen being the local partner and co-organiser of the event.
