Call for Proposals: Qatar Museums seeks a provider for an Arts Management Program

Qreation Generation (QG) is Qatar Museums flagship staff development program, created in 2012 in consultation with and delivered by international experts. Qreation Generation's goal is to build future arts and cultural sector leaders for QM, Qatar and the GCC region. So far, three cohorts have successfully graduated from the program. The program consists of two components: Leadership Studies (designed and delivered by The Center for Creative Leadership), and the Management of the Arts & Cultural Institutions Studies for which a new provider is being sought. The deadline for submission is May 14th, 2016.

Qatar Museums (QM) is a government institution in charge of the arts and cultural sector for the State of Qatar. Qatar Museums brings together museums, public art, and cultural heritage in Qatar, whilst expanding everyone's creative horizons. Its ambition is to be a cultural instigator, fulfilling the cultural goals of the 2030 National Vision.

QG Program Structure:

During each of the annually offered programs, 20 participants a group comprised of the most promising young employees attend eight course modules, spread over eight months, each module up to five days long. The Leadership Studies portion takes up three of those modules, and the Management of the Arts & Cultural Institutions Studies, for which this call for proposals is being advertised, covers the remaining five.

The Program should commence in October 2016, and conclude in May 2017.

Submission Guidelines:

To apply, please submit a detailed syllabus for the Management of the Arts & Cultural Institutions Studies program. The topics to be covered can include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of Public Organizations
  • Introduction to Management of an Art Museum
  • Project Management
  • Education and Interpretation
  • Marketing and Communications for Cultural Institutions
  • The Role of Museums/Galleries in Cultural Diplomacy and Tourism Development
  • Audience Development
  • Professional Development
  • Supporting Operational Functions Roles in Cultural Institutions
Arts Management classes consist of lectures, discussions, presentations and case studies covering key issues in arts management and management of cultural institutions, and the latest theories associated with them. All the topics should be divided into five distinct modules, covering approximately 20 teaching days.

The expectation is that the topics will be custom-tailored to QMs needs and cover areas pertinent to QMs work. To learn more about QM, please visit the Museum website.

All modules are being delivered on site, in Doha, Qatar, at the Museum of Islamic Art. The instructors should be willing to travel to Doha for the purposes of delivering the five modules. Please include the names and short biographies or CVs of instructors. They should also stipulate communication with the program participants over internet in-between the modules for the purposes of following up on their progress and assisting them with final projects.

The participants are not graded or assessed, but they are supposed to produce final group projects. The cohort will be divided into four equal groups, each focusing on a topic pertinent to QM. Your proposal should include ideas for these final projects.

Fees:

The Proposals should include budget/fees for the programs development and delivery.

The budget should not include costs that will be covered by QM: air fare, accommodation costs (full room and board in a 4-star hotel), local transportation to and from the airport in Doha, as well as transportation to the venue. QM will obtain visas for instructors and cover associated costs.

There is no specific format required for submitting a proposal, as long as it includes a detailed syllabus and budget.

The deadline for submission is May 14th, 2016.

This offer is for the contract of one year, with a possibility to extend it for two or more years.
