TANDEM Turkey goes for a third round!

The political landscape across the EU, Turkey and their neighbour regions has substantially changed since TANDEM Turkey-EU started with a pilot in 2011. In times of harshening working circumstances for cultural actors in Turkey and a vanishing EU integration perspective building robust long-term EU-Turkey collaboration channels become ever more essential. Cultural collaboration is important to create lasting connections between groups and communities. The TANDEM scheme facilitates creative innovation, and nurtures local cultural change-makers. TANDEM Turkeys intense international collaboration processes include realisation of a shared interdisciplinary project, linked to their cultural expertise. The latest call for applicants is for the Partner Forum in zmir on 11-14 June, 2015.
How does it work?

For one year, up to 15 cultural managers/project coordinators from Turkey and up to 15 from different EU countries form transnational collaboration Tandems. All participants spend a placement at their partners organisation. Next to experiencing a new cultural environment, this working visit includes the planning and implementation of a shared cultural project or co-production. In addition to these exchange visits, the entire group meets several times to share their experience and knowledge of international collaboration and cross-cultural management. Throughout the process, participants receive know-how support from the programme organisers as well as project funding for their co-production/joint project.

Who is it for?

TANDEM Turkey is designed to strengthen participants skills in the field of cross-cultural collaboration and organisational management. The programme addresses cultural managers and project co-ordinators of independent cultural NGOs at the beginning of their career, but also experienced cultural professionals. Cultural managers/project coordinators of public institutions that have an interest in working across cultural borders are also welcome to apply. In general, applicants should be well connected to their local communities. Applicants should have a good command of English.

What do we offer?

  • 12 days working placements in the partners organisations (reimbursement for travel and living expenses of your visits)
  • 4 international meetings with the entire group with moderated peer to peer learning sessions and input by experienced trainers
  • Start-up funding of up to EUR 5.000 for a collaboration project
  • Becoming a part of the TANDEM network of more than 200 cultural organisations and 150 cultural managers coming from ca. 35 countries in wider Europe and the Arab region.
What does the programme look like?

A mix of visits, with intensive training sessions and specific collaborative projects the programme is designed for strengthening the managerial and specialist skills of cultural managers to contribute international cooperation and development.

Why are we doing it?

TANDEM Turkey - EU is an initiative of the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam), MitOst (Berlin), Anadolu Kültür (Istanbul), and supported by Stiftung Mercator (Essen). The programme sucessfully realised two rounds (2011/12 & 2013/14) and was able to bring together 64 cultural managers.

How to apply?

Based on relevant skills, experience and matching potential, a balanced mix of up to 40 participants (up to 20 participants from Turkey and 20 participants from EU) will be invited to find a matching partner at the Partner Forum. After identifying their potential partner, Tandem pairs submit their collaboration plans to continue to the main phase of the TANDEM programme for the next one year.

Deadline: 22 April, 2015, midnight CET

Jury decisions will be announced to the applicants by mid May.
